Science Experiments for Kids

If you want to know about some easy and simple science experiments for kids, read this write-up.
There are various science experiments for kids that are mentioned in the books, which we seldom encourage them to try at home. We just want them to learn these experiments, understand them theoretically and then write them as they are in the examinations.
What next? The kid only understands 75 percent of what he reads, reproduces only 60 percent of what he learns and understand hardly 50 percent of the whole thing.
To make things easy to remember and understand you just need to help them do these experiments at home, the maximum that you as a parent, teacher or guardian have to do is to keep a watch so that they don't hurt themselves in any way while doing these experiments. Here are some easy experiments for kids that they can perform at home.

Experiment One - Plants grow towards Sunlight

Materials Required

A sapling, a shoe box, a pair of scissors, black paper
Procedure

Take a shoe box and cover it with black paper. Then make a hole in the box and place the sapling in the shoe box and keep it on the windowsill. Open the lid of the box everyday for some time to water the plant and then cover the lid again.
After three to four days open the lid and you will observe that the plant has grown towards that direction of the hole from where the rays of sun entered the box.

Inference

The conclusion is this that plants need sunlight for their growth and other life processes and thus they grow towards sunlight.
You can again try the experiment by taking another box and this time making the hole in the opposite direction. You would notice this time that the plant grows towards the opposite direction, which is the direction of sunlight.

Experiment Two - Freezing of Water

Materials Required

Water, freezer, plastic container with a lid

Procedure

The plastic container has to be filled with water and then the lid has to be placed tightly. Now the container that contains the liquid water has to be placed in the freezer and leave it that way for at least eight hours.
After eight hours the container should be taken out of the freezer. Observe that the lid of the can has come off and the liquid water has become solid ice.
Inference

When the temperature is decreased, the states of matter change. Water (liquid) changes to ice (solid) and when this happens the volume increases and it takes more space, which is why it pushes the lid of the container and the lid, come off.

Experiment Three- Floating and Sinking

Materials Required

A bowl, water, an orange

Procedure

The bowl has to be filled with water and then put the orange on the water and see if it sinks. Try and sink it by pushing it downwards in the water. Now peel the orange and place it on the water surface and see if it sinks. Observe that this time the orange sinks.
Inference

The orange did not sink the first time because there are numerous air pockets in the orange peel, which make the orange lighter than water thus making it float on the water surface. Once the orange is peeled off the air pockets are also removed along with the peel as a result of which the orange sinks the next time.
These simple science experiments for kids are easy and exciting and by following the simple steps, they can easily check the results. Thus such methods make the process of learning easy and full of fun.
